Peter Cortissos is an actor, comedian, theatre maker and voiceover artist. Graduating from The Adelaide College of the Arts and further training at the John Bolton Theatre School, focusing on Jacques Lecoq's teachings in Vaudeville, Clowning, and Bouffon.

 

With an inclination towards the comedic and the absurd, in 2009 he co-founded the notorious sketch comedy group: ‘The Golden Phung’ who became regulars at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, often selling out shows across their four major appearances, they won and were nominated for several awards. In 2011 they travelled to The Melbourne Comedy Festival. The Golden Phung would later create a successful web series.

 

Peter has worked extensively in children’s theatre and has toured shows and performed across South Australia and Nationally. Highlights include co-writing and devising ‘Scaredy Kat’ By Colourwheel Productions which went on to win ‘Best Presentation for Children’ at the Adelaide Fringe 2011. Other highlights include ‘Like ME, Like You’ By Act Now Theatre, ‘Prince Pipsqueak’ by Gumption Theatre, ‘The Water Show’ by Splash Theatre Company, ‘And the Winner Is’ by Echelon Productions, ‘Shaggles and Petrookio’ with Gaia Theatre and ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ with Ink Pot Arts.

 

In theatre, Peter has worked professionally on many shows. Highlight’s include ‘Foul Play’s Macbeth’ directed by Yasmin Gurreeboo. Captain Boomer Collective’s ‘Whale’ as part of the Adelaide Festival 2024, and ‘Slicing and Dicing’ by The Adelaide Duende Collective.

 

For over 15 years, Peter has been working consistently in hospital and medical settings as a children’s entertainer, using his performance skills, comedy and improvisation to provide distraction and play therapy with patients. He is now a performance coach and teaches comedy and performance skills to other children’s performers.

 

Peter has been performing stand-up comedy since 2017, and has performed regularly with Adelaide Comedy, Comedy, Top End Comedy and Croc Bite Comedy. In 2018 he was selected to be a part of Darwin’s ‘Laugh It Off’ Comedy Showcase which elevates emerging local talent alongside four other comics.

 

Film and TV Credits include Top End Wedding, Stateless, ANZAC Girls, Danger 5, The Golden Phung web series as well as various TVC’s.

 

Peter has been a proud MEAA member since 2008.
