Comedy Biography
Peter Cortissos has been performing comedy in some form since he was just a child.
In 2004 while still at High School he entered Class Clowns and made it through to the final round.
In 2009 he co-founded notorious sketch comedy group: The Golden Phung with Roy Phung, Eddie Morrison, Andrew Crupi, Lucy Markievicz, Tom Fitzsimmons, and Graham Self.
The Golden Phung became regulars at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, often selling out shows across their four major appearances, and travelling to The Melbourne Comedy Festival in 2011. The Golden Phung would later create a successful web series. They would go on to be nominated and win several awards.
In 2011, Peter started working as a children’s entertainer in hospital and medical settings, which focussed on and grew his skills in improvisational comedy and children’s entertainment. Peter still works in this role and continues to grow and learn every day. He is now a performance coach and teaches comedy and performance skills to other children’s performers.
In 2016 he started doing a series of comedic performance poetry.
While travelling to Darwin in 2017, Peter entered Top End Comedy’s stand up comedy competition “Comedy Survivor” at the beachfront Hotel, winning first prize and taking out a cash prize.
In 2018 Peter moved to Darwin to spend a year in the Northern Territory. He started regularly attending stand up comedy nights, and soon became a regular at Top End Comedy, as well as Croc Bite Comedy.
After successfully auditioning, Peter was selected for Top End Comedy’s Laugh It Off, a showcase of new and upcoming Darwin based talent for a feature spot alongside four other comics.
In 2019, Peter studied at the John Bolton Theatre School in Melbourne, which had a focus on physical theatre, clowning and bouffon clowning.
Since then Peter has returned to Adelaide where you can see him on stage doing stand up comedy, or improv.


Improvisation

Peter has been improvising comedy for many years in his role as a children's entertainer in hospital and medical settings. in 2024 Peter became a performance coach within this role and now teaches improvisation and children's entertainment to other performers.
In 2026 He was a guest performer on the Adelaide Fringe Show: Improv Battle Royale and competing alongside some very seasoned improvisers and comedians.

Stand Up Comedy

Peter has been performing stand-up comedy since 2018, after moving to Darwin, Northern Territory, and has also performed in Adelaide and Sydney.
Peter's style is often described as highly energetic, absurd and full of wit.
Peter has showcased some work online, but the best way to know his comedy is to see it when he performs live.


Cranker Comedy
Crown & Anchor Hotel, Adelaide
Peter has been performing with Cranker Comedy for many years.
Earlier on his career, Peter could be seen performing regularly with the Golden Phung and often used Cranker Comedy to try new and untested material, as well as showcase some crowd favourite sketch comedy.
Since 2019, Peter has taken to the stage here as a stand up comedian, using his highly energetic and absurd style to engage with the audience.

The Golden Phung
Sketch Comedy
The Golden Phung are a sketch comedy troupe from Adelaide, South Australia. During the 2010 Adelaide Fringe Festival their self-titled debut show had a sell-out season, receiving wide critical praise: most notably a nomination for best emerging comedians.
2011 saw another sell-out season at the Adelaide Fringe Festival and their Melbourne International Comedy Festival debut (4 stars – Herald Sun).
Following that; their 2012 show ‘Encyclopedia of Everything’ garnered 5 stars from Fringe Review UK. In 2013, their barrier breaking comedy hit ‘Golden Phung Sell-Out’ did just that; and was nominated for the BankSA TalkFringe Award.
In 2015, The Golden Phung returned to the Stage with Godlen Phung Go to Hell during the Adelaide Fringe Festival.
Also in 2015, The Godlen Phung released a four part web series called The Godlen Phung.
Performing with utmost reverence for the traditions of classic television sketch comedy such as Monty Python’s Flying Circus, The Micallef P(r)ogram(me), The Late Show and The Goodies.
Over the years, they have gained the support of a growing number of fans as well as a handful of accolades. With a little help, we know that we can truly create something incredible, surreal and hilarious. Remember; you’re no on unless you’ve been Phung’d!
